Obesity & Poor Sleep
Disrupted sleep or sleep deprivation affects:
- growth hormone – controls body fat and muscle
- production of leptin hormone – tells body when it should feel full
- secretion of cortisol – stress hormone causing high calorie cravings
- reduced daytime physical activity including natural movement and fidgeting
- NSF study – 1/4 adults ate more than usual following night of inadequate sleep.
